How to Reach

By Flight

The nearest airport to Alipurduar is Bagdogra Airport (IXB), located about 170 km away. Bagdogra is well connected to major cities like Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai. From the airport, taxis and pre-arranged vehicles are available. The scenic drive to Alipurduar takes approximately 4–5 hours.

By Bus

Regular bus services run from Siliguri to Alipurduar from the Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus. Both government and private buses operate on this route. Travel time is around 5–6 hours.

By Train

Option A: From Siliguri Junction (SGUJ)

Daily trains run from Siliguri Junction to Alipurduar Junction (APDJ). This scenic route passes through forests and tea gardens. Check train availability on the Indian Railways website or other booking platforms.

Option B: From New Jalpaiguri (NJP)

You can also take a train from New Jalpaiguri (NJP) to New Alipurduar Station (NOQ). NJP is a major station with multiple trains to Alipurduar daily. This is also a scenic and preferred route.

Alipurduar to Venue

From Alipurduar, proceed to Rajabhatkhao, complete the entry formalities of Buxa Tiger Reserve and continue driving to Santalabari. From Santalabari taxi stand, take a Maruti Omni to Zero Point (last motorable spot), about 1.5 km.

The hike begins from Zero Point:
• 2 km trek to Buxa (Festival venue)
• Additional 2 km to Lepchakha
Total: 4 km moderate hike

Important Note for All Participants and Visitors

You will be entering the core and remote interior region of the Buxa Tiger Reserve. Facilities and connectivity are extremely limited. Please read the guidelines carefully.

1. Accommodation

• Stay will be arranged in local homestays managed by the Dukpa community.
• Rooms are simple with basic bedding and home-cooked meals.
• Electricity and hot water may not be available at all times.
• Staying here supports local livelihoods and offers an authentic cultural experience.

2. Essential Supplies

• Limited shops are available with items like cold drinks, biscuits, or Maggi.
• Carry your own snacks, torch, power bank, toiletries, and medicines.
• Bring warm clothes and extra batteries.

3. Connectivity and Communication

• Mobile network is almost non-existent (90% area has no signal).
• Internet access is nearly absent.
• The team will use walkie-talkies for coordination and safety.

4. Emergency Contact & Coordination

• You will be introduced to the Ground Zero Coordination Team before entering.
• Share their contact numbers with your family for emergencies.
• The team maintains communication across groups and base camp.

5. Environmental Guidelines

• Buxa is a protected forest—follow all rules strictly.
• Avoid littering or using plastic.
• Do not disturb wildlife.
• Follow all instructions from forest officials and organizers.

6. Safety and Preparedness

• Carry a torch/headlamp, mosquito repellent, and a first-aid kit.
• Wear comfortable trekking shoes suited for hills.
• Respect local culture and Dukpa community traditions.
